Submitting photos to Roberts Online
We welcome all photographic submissions. In addition to good quality portrait images of a species, we are looking for photographs that illustrate the range of plumages from juvenile to adult, male and female, breeding and non-breeding, and colour morphs. General habits, activities, flight shots, breeding displays, food and feeding techniques, nest, eggs, chicks and juveniles are all of interest. Nest sites and typical habitats will also be useful.
Photographs may be submitted via e-mail to Southern African Birding cc , or on CD to Roberts Online, P.O.Box 1438, Westville 3630. Very large files or a large number of photographs should preferably be submitted on disc. E-mail files should not exceed 1MB in file size. If you do e-mail large files, please do so one at a time.
Please use the following checklist for submission of photographs;
- 1. Prepare the photos for submission
Photographs may be submitted as RAW files or preferably as jpegs. Please do not use a high jpeg compression to reduce the size of photos for e-mail. Rather submit a larger file, but generally less than 1MB. If you have the know-how, crop the images to a 4x3 landscape, re-size to 1200x900, and save as a high-quality 90% jpeg. A final photo file of around 300KB is perfect. A 4x3 landscape is best suited to the application, so please do not tightly crop the images to a square, portrait or random shape. Of course, if your images are already cropped, we will accept them as they are. - 2. Name and Caption the photos.
Please provide details with each photo so that we may caption and acknowledge your contribution. Captions should include species name, subject caption, locality, and photographers name. Eg. Narina Trogon, male, Dlinza Forest Eshowe, H.Chittenden. You may choose to edit the file name as the caption, or provide a list of photos and their captions. When e-mailing, please include the filename and captions in the text of the e-mail and not as an attached list. - 3. Your details and agreement
