Purple-crested Turaco

(G. p. porphyreolophus) Ad: Forehead, upper cheeks and area above eyes brilliant emerald green. Crown, rounded crest and nape deep, dark, glossy purple. Hind neck, lower cheeks and throat green. Mantle and breast yellowish green, strongly washed pink. Lower back, wings and tail glossy bluish purple, reflecting green in some light. Greater and median coverts bluish grey, primaries crimson, edged brown on outer webs, all tipped brown. Crimson primaries not visible in folded wing, but conspicuous in flight. Underwing, belly and flanks slate. Bill black. Eyes brown, bare skin around eyes scarlet; nostrils oval and exposed, situated halfway along bill. Legs and feet black.

Juv: Similar to ad, but red in wings less extensive and duller.
