VOICE: In territorial display, gives loud, trilling song or 'laugh' from high perch. Starts with high, staccato note, tiu (sometimes 2 notes), followed after 1 sec by descending trill, krit-trrrrrrrr, fading towards end11,19; given in bouts of 5-10 sec. Pairs may call incessantly for several minutes while flying around at territory boundary. Individual trill is like 'laugh' without initial note, and uttered less emphatically, rendered tirrrrr or chowarrr11. At perch, gives 4-6 such trills without pause in 2-3 sec tirrrrr-tirrrrr-tirrrr-tirrrrr. Alarm call a harsh kee, or ghee, given 5-6 x/sec. Mobbing call a scolding zik-zik-zik. Nestling solicits attention with excited cheep-cheep11.
